We want our kids to DREAM BIG!! The Children’s Lifesaving Foundation kicked off its 2008 “Dream Mentor” Series at our “Care through College” Learning Center this month with amazing “Simpson’s” Cartoonist Lucas Gray! Lucas demonstrated basic animation & drawing techniques with the children, fielded questions from them, and explained how important both determination and lightness of spirit are so important making your dreams come true. Thanks, Lucas! *Call (310)-450-3701 if you would like to speak with the kids about a craft, career, or trade which you have perfected & become a CLF Dream Mentor! HAPPY 2008, Everyone! It’s going to be another GREAT YEAR! |

Welcome Friends! The Children’s Lifesaving Foundation (CLF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to changing the lives of at-risk and homeless children and their parents by providing comprehensive child and family services that transform lives. Our unique programs work together to promote self-sufficiency, confidence, and leadership skills that inspire the children to become real contributors to their local and global communities. The CLF was created in 1993, with the goal of bringing shelter bound, low-income and at-risk youth up into the Santa Monica Mountains to have the absolute summer of a lifetime. Since then, the CLF has greatly broadened our strategic scope to include a comprehensive range of programs, which powerfully work together in a wholly unique way to enrich and change the lives of L.A.’s most at-risk children, and the local community in which they live. Here is just a brief overview of our work: Our Adopt-a-Family Program is where we make miracles happen for homeless children and their families by moving them out of homeless shelters into their own new homes or apartments. The current drop-out rate among American high school students is rising across the country, at an extremely drastic rate: “An increasing number of researchers are saying that nearly 1 out of 3 public high school students won’t graduate. . . . (TIME Magazine, “Dropout Nation,” April, 2006). The “Care Through College” Learning Center is a crucial Program, in which the main focus is to guide, mentor and tutor each child through to College and beyond, and make these children’s dream for a better life and a great education an actual reality. Focus is also on a unique “Become Aware” Program, which teaches the children about the importance of community and global awareness, through group participation in special events, cultural field trips, and the performance of actual community service. Camp Summer FUN Enrichment Program is a continuation of our initial, core program, which incorporates the natural setting of the camp experience into healthy, constructive and educational activities, designed to provide vibrantly positive, life-affirming outdoor experiences to children with little or no opportunities for such. The campsite consists of 1,700 acres of scenic beauty in the Santa Monica Mountains. Activities include special nature hikes, a 40-foot Climbing Wall, team-building group exercises, Zuma Beach excursions, Surf lessons, and organic crafts, not to mention a scrumptious breakfast and lunch spread!
Terrific Holiday Events in December are when the children feel the true holiday spirit from our wonderful sponsors and volunteers. Each child receive eight to ten presents in their own huge, personalized gift bag, and throughout the day enjoy music provided by our wonderful DJ’s and face painters, holiday crafts, and also a catered lunch by In-n-Out and then a picture with the one and only Santa Claus himself. Please feel free to roam around our site, learn how to contribute your time or funds to our programs, and see which events and activities we have coming up soon! Thanks so much for stopping by! Please remember: Your generosity can make an astonishing difference in the lives of the at-risk children we serve.
